How does a hydrocyclone sand separator work? :

-Inlet Flow: The water containing sand and other particles enters the hydrocyclone sand separator through an inlet at the top or side. This entry point is designed to create a spiral flow pattern inside the cylinder.

-Centrifugal Separation: As the water spirals downward, the centrifugal forces generated within the cyclone cause denser solid particles to move outward towards the wall of the separator. The motion is due to the difference in density between the solid particles and the liquid.

-Separation of Particles: The solid particles, including sand and silt, continue to move downward along the wall and are eventually discharged through an underflow outlet at the bottom of the separator. This bottom outlet is typically narrower than the main body of the cyclone, which helps concentrate the particles as they exit.

-Clean Water Extraction: Meanwhile, the cleaner water, with significantly reduced particle content, moves in a spiraling motion towards the center of the cyclone and exits through an overflow outlet at the top. This outlet often has a vortex finder, a tube that extends into the cyclone, which helps in separating the clean water from the rotating mass of fluid and particles.
