What is self cleaning strainer?
A self-cleaning strainer is an advanced type of filtration device designed to remove particulates and debris from liquids without the need for manual cleaning. These strainers are equipped with an automatic cleaning mechanism that activates when the filter element gets clogged with debris, ensuring continuous operation and reducing downtime. Self-cleaning strainers are widely used in various industries, such as water treatment, chemical processing, oil and gas, and manufacturing, where uninterrupted flow and reduced maintenance are critical.

How Self-Cleaning Strainers Work?
The operation of a self-cleaning strainer typically involves several key steps:

Filtration: Fluid enters the strainer and flows through a filter element, such as a screen or mesh, which traps particles larger than the filter’s pore size while allowing the clean fluid to pass through.

Detection of Clogging: The strainer monitors the pressure difference (differential pressure) across the filter element. An increase in differential pressure indicates that the filter is getting clogged with particles.

Initiation of Cleaning Cycle: Once the differential pressure reaches a predetermined threshold, the self-cleaning mechanism is triggered. This can also be initiated by a timer or manually, depending on the system design.

Cleaning Process: The cleaning mechanism may involve:

Backwashing: Reversing the flow to flush out the trapped particles from the filter element.
Mechanical Scraping or Brushing: Using mechanical scrapers or brushes to remove debris from the filter surface.
Rinsing: Directing a flow of clean fluid through the filter element in the opposite direction to dislodge and remove the accumulated particles.
Disposal of Particles: The dislodged particles are then flushed out of the strainer through a waste valve, returning the filter to its optimal filtering capacity.

Resumption of Normal Operation: After the cleaning cycle is completed, the strainer resumes its normal filtration operation until the next cleaning cycle is triggered.
