How does automatic strainer filter work?

How does automatic strainer filter work? :  An automatic strainer filter is a crucial component in various industrial processes, designed to remove particles and contaminants from liquids. This self-cleaning system ensures continuous flow and operation without the need for manual cleaning, making it an efficient solution for maintaining fluid purity. Here’s an overview of how it works:

1. Initial Filtration Process:
The process begins when the fluid enters the strainer filter. It flows through a filter screen that is designed to capture and separate solids from the fluid. The size of the particles that can be filtered out depends on the mesh size of the screen used in the strainer.

2. Detection of Screen Clogging:
As the filter screen collects particles, it gradually begins to clog, which increases the differential pressure across the filter. Most automatic strainer filters are equipped with a differential pressure switch or sensor that monitors this pressure difference. When the pressure reaches a predefined threshold, it triggers the cleaning cycle. Some systems may also initiate cleaning based on time intervals or manually.

3. The Cleaning Cycle:
Backwash Mechanism: In many automatic strainer filters, the cleaning process involves a backwash system. This system reverses the flow of the fluid or directs a secondary flow of clean fluid backward through the filter screen. This backflow dislodges the particles collected on the screen’s surface, effectively cleaning it.
Mechanical Cleaning: Other designs might employ mechanical methods for cleaning the screen, such as rotating brushes or scrapers that physically remove the buildup of particles. These particles are then flushed out through a waste valve.

4. Continuous Operation:
A critical advantage of automatic strainer filters is their ability to operate continuously without shutting down for maintenance or cleaning. The self-cleaning cycle is quick, ensuring that the main flow of the fluid remains largely uninterrupted. This enables a steady and reliable filtration process, crucial for industrial applications where downtime can be costly.

5. Resumption of Filtration:
After the cleaning cycle is completed, the filter returns to its normal filtration mode until the differential pressure across the screen increases to the trigger point again, starting the next cleaning cycle. This cycle of filtration and self-cleaning continues automatically, ensuring efficient operation.
